RISING STAR PRODUCTION

Each season includes a “Rising Star Production,” a play or musical reserved for participants ages 20 and under.* Productions will feature an entirely youth-based cast, and encourage a youth-centered crew and technical team. As part of the Encore Association, performers any local “Rising Star Production” are eligible for certain awards and scholarship opportunities.

*Rising Star productions may feature specific ages ranges permitted to audition, depending on casting needs, director requirements, and show appropriateness. Rising Star productions may or may not include casting cuts. All details specific to the show will be outlined on the Audition page.

MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS

Youth performers are permitted to audition for mainstage shows when casting permits it. Check the Audition page to confirm if upcoming auditions include age requirements or restrictions. Criteria will vary based on the production and director.

VOLUNTEER

Youth participants have several options for volunteering. For those seeking a short-term opportunity, ushering at a performance is available. Volunteers under the age of 16 are encouraged to usher with a parent or guardian. All ushers receive complimentary admission to the performance on the day they volunteer.

Assisting backstage is an important role in many performances, as stagehands are needed to manage props, set pieces, and provide costume assistance. If you choose to volunteer backstage, you will be required to be present for all scheduled performances.

If you’re eager to truly understand the entire production process from beginning to end, consider joining a crew or shadowing a technical or artistic lead. Working side by side with someone experienced will give you invaluable insights on areas such as costuming, lighting, stage managing, set construction, and more. Volunteering in a larger capacity may require attending frequent rehearsals, tech runs, and/or performances days.
