CALL FOR DIRECTORS
Interested in directing a show with Carmel Community Players?
Submissions for 2028 will be accepted following the Annual Meeting & Carma Awards Ceremony on September 13, 2026.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
For the 2027-2028 period, we aim to assemble a diverse lineup that appeals to a broad age range, through comedies, dramas, and musicals. For submitting directors, we urge you to focus on family-friendly content, classic adaptations, and nostalgia-evoking works, to best connect with our audiences.
CCP seasons usually consist of 5-6 productions; 3-4 mainstage plays, 1 musical, and 1 Rising Star production (a youth-centered show which can be a play or musical). This structure is open and subject to change based on director submissions but will not exceed 6 performances per year. Shows should seek to engage a diverse group of directors, actors, technical and artistic staff.
Most of our shows will be performed at the Cat in Carmel, an intimate venue with a stage about 25’ across and about 32’ deep.
WHAT TO SUBMIT
Submitting directors will be asked to provide proof of prior directing or theatrical experience, details of your artistic vision, staffing needs, resources, and scheduling availability. Submitting directors are not required to have prior experience with Carmel Community Players but are strongly advised to have prior experience directing or assistant directing for theatre or stage performance. First time directors will be strongly encouraged to enlist a CCP-veteran or seasoned director to assist. Available time slots:
- FEBRUARY / MARCH
- APRIL / MAY
- JUNE / early JULY (typically reserved for Rising Star youth production)
- late JULY / AUG
- SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER
- NOVEMBER / DECEMBER *
*Christmas or holiday-themed shows are encouraged but not required. We would highly encourage a family-friendly submission.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Submissions will be closed at the end of November. The CCP script selection committee will read, review, and discuss each submission. All scripts will be considered for suitability with our audience demographic, as well as venue requirements, needed resources, and marketability. Final season decisions will be made in February – all directors will be contacted. Season announcements will be made in April.
